New Delhi: A massive fire broke out at a three-storey shoe and plastic manufacturing unit in the Narela area of the national capital on Wednesday morning, prompting a large-scale response from the Delhi Fire Service.

According to officials, the blaze erupted at around 8.45 am in the Bhorgarh Industrial Area and was quickly classified as a ‘Category 6’ fire, indicating extreme severity and high potential for rapid spread.

Fire spreads rapidly

Authorities said the fire intensified quickly due to the presence of highly flammable materials such as shoes and plastic goods stored inside the factory premises. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the building, causing alarm among nearby industrial units and residents.

The dense smoke and intensity of the flames made firefighting operations challenging in the initial stages.

Large-scale firefighting operation

Initially, 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, as the situation escalated, the number of units deployed was increased to 19 in an effort to bring the blaze under control.

Firefighters are continuing their efforts to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings in the industrial area.

Evacuation and safety measures

As a precautionary measure, the entire factory premises was evacuated. Security cordons were established around the site to ensure public safety and to facilitate uninterrupted firefighting operations.

Officials said timely evacuation helped avert potential casualties.

No casualties reported

Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far. Emergency teams remain on site, closely monitoring the situation as operations continue.

Cause under investigation

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Officials have stated that a detailed investigation will be carried out once the fire is fully extinguished.

Conclusion

The incident highlights the risks associated with industrial units handling flammable materials and underscores the importance of strict fire safety measures. While prompt action by emergency services helped prevent loss of life, authorities are expected to review safety compliance in the area to avoid similar incidents in the future.
