A 24-year-old MBA student was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend inside his rented accommodation in Indore, with police describing the case as deeply disturbing and involving sexual assault and strangulation.

The accused, identified as Piyush Dhamnotiya, was arrested in Mumbai and brought back to Madhya Pradesh for interrogation. He is currently on police remand.

Disappearance and alarming messages

According to the Madhya Pradesh Police, the woman left home on Tuesday after informing her family she needed to get official documents corrected. Later that evening, she reportedly told her sister she would attend a birthday gathering with Dhamnotiya and return by 11 pm.

Around 11 pm, a message was sent from her phone stating she would not return home. Soon after, her phone was switched off. Objectionable videos were later circulated from her device in a college WhatsApp group, raising alarm.

A missing complaint was registered late Wednesday night.

Body found in locked house

On Friday, residents in the Dwarkapuri area reported a foul smell from the locked accommodation. Police broke open the door and found the woman’s body in an advanced state of decomposition. Rope marks around her neck suggested strangulation.

CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused entering the house with the victim and leaving alone hours later carrying a bag.

Police allegations

Investigators allege that Dhamnotiya assaulted the victim following an argument. They claim he strangled her and later fled the city, travelling to Mumbai. Police also allege he destroyed her phone to eliminate evidence.

The accused was apprehended with assistance from Mumbai Police.

The victim’s family has alleged prior harassment and sought strict action. Authorities say further forensic analysis and interrogation are underway.
