Three students from Government Medical College (GMC), Nagarkurnool, were suspended on Wednesday after a police complaint accused them of ragging a first-year MBBS student in a hostel room on March 25. The case was registered on Saturday, prompting swift action from the college administration.

According to GMC principal Dr. Ramadevi, two second-year students received a one-month suspension, while a third-year student—identified as the primary offender—was suspended for three months.

Reports indicate that the victim endured severe humiliation at the hands of his seniors. One of them allegedly whipped him with a belt. The trio also demanded his UPI PIN and assaulted him again when he refused.

As part of their brutal hazing, the student was forced to perform an ‘air chair’ punishment, maintaining a sitting position without support. He was also made to lift an LPG cylinder as an additional form of torment.

Following the incident, police charged the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997. Additionally, law enforcement officials counseled the three students involved.

Authorities have reiterated the need for strict anti-ragging measures to prevent such incidents in educational institutions.
