A doctor at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has come under scrutiny after a family alleged that he treated their child’s bleeding head injury with Fevikwik instead of medical-grade adhesive or stitches. The incident has sparked outrage and triggered an official inquiry into possible medical negligence.
Child injured at home, rushed to hospital
Sardar Jaspinder Singh, a resident of an upscale society in the Jagriti Vihar area, said his young son was playing at home when he struck his head on the corner of a table. The injury caused bleeding, and the family immediately took him to Bhagyashree Hospital for treatment.
According to the complaint, the attending doctor allegedly instructed them to purchase a ₹5 tube of Fevikwik, a household adhesive, and used it to seal the wound in place of proper sutures. The family stated that the child cried continuously during the procedure.
“The doctor said the child was simply nervous and that the pain would reduce,” the family alleged. However, the discomfort did not subside, raising concerns about the treatment administered.
Adhesive had to be removed after complications
When the child continued to experience severe discomfort through the night, the family took him to Lokpriya Hospital the following morning. Doctors there reportedly spent nearly three hours removing the hardened Fevikwik from the wound. Once the adhesive was carefully taken off, the boy was given four stitches to properly close the injury.
The family said the consequences could have been dire. They claimed that if the adhesive had leaked into the child’s eye, the situation could have turned into a serious medical emergency.
Authorities order inquiry into alleged negligence
Meerut Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria confirmed that he has received the complaint. “The child’s family has filed a formal grievance. An investigation committee has been constituted, and appropriate action will be taken once the findings are submitted,” he said.
The probe will examine whether standard treatment protocols were violated and whether the doctor’s actions call for disciplinary measures or legal action. Officials are also expected to determine whether the hospital followed proper procedures while treating a paediatric head injury.
Family escalates matter to CM’s office
Unhappy with the hospital’s response, the family has also raised the matter with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office. They have demanded strict action and argued that using a household adhesive on a child’s wound amounts to gross negligence.
Conclusion
The incident has reignited concerns surrounding medical oversight in smaller private hospitals, especially in sensitive cases involving children. With an official inquiry underway, authorities are expected to clarify whether the child’s treatment constituted malpractice and what corrective action will follow.
