A fatal road accident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday in Kolar, when a speeding car collided head-on with an electric rickshaw, causing the rickshaw to overturn and the car to mount a road divider. The impact left four individuals injured, including a child. Tragically, the rickshaw driver, Omprakash (35), later succumbed to his injuries.
According to ASI Sunil Tripathi, the incident took place near the Mahabali Nagar gate on the Kolar Six Lane Road. Omprakash, a resident of Shyam Nagar, Habibganj, was traveling with his 8-year-old son Vikas and friend Devendra from Sarvdharm Colony to Mahabali Nagar. As he attempted a turn through the road divider cut, a car approaching at high speed from the opposite direction struck the rickshaw.
The collision caused the rickshaw to flip, while the car lost control and crashed onto the median. Bystanders rushed to the scene, rescuing all four individuals from the wreckage. Emergency responders transported them to JP Hospital, where Omprakash was declared dead after receiving treatment.
His son Vikas remains in critical condition, while Devendra and the car driver are under medical observation with serious injuries. The Kolar Police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine liability and assess road safety measures at the accident site.
