Mild Tremor Hits Kutch District, Gujarat
A tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt in Gujarat’s Kutch district early Sunday morning, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR). Fortunately, officials reported no casualties or property damage resulting from this seismic activity.
The earthquake struck at 3:58 AM, with its epicenter located approximately 53 km north-northeast of Lakhpat, as stated by the Gandhinagar-based ISR.
This follows a previous tremor on October 27, when a magnitude 3.7 quake was recorded in Amreli district, part of the Saurashtra region.
Gujarat is known for its significant earthquake risk, having experienced nine major quakes in the last 200 years, as noted by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA). The devastating Kutch earthquake of 2001 remains one of the most severe in India’s history, being both the third-largest and the second most destructive event in the past two centuries.
