The Ministry of Civil Aviation has categorically denied the allegations that passenger information from the Digi Yatra app is being shared with tax officials. The clarification comes in response to a report by The New Indian Express, which suggested that the app could be used for potential surveillance by tax authorities.

In an official post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry assured the public that the Digi Yatra app follows a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) framework. This means that all personally identifiable details are stored solely on the user’s device, without being transferred to any central database. The statement firmly asserted that passenger data collected by the Digi Yatra app is not being made available to the Indian tax authorities.

This statement directly contradicts the report published by The New Indian Express, which claimed that the tax department might have access to this data to inspect individuals’ tax filings. The Ministry further emphasized that no such sharing of data is taking place.

The Digi Yatra initiative is designed to simplify air travel by allowing passengers to verify their identity digitally, enhancing both security and convenience. With this reassurance, the ministry aimed to alleviate concerns about privacy violations and ensure that citizens can continue using the app with confidence.
