At Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital in Asarwa, anxious families gather in search of their loved ones following the devastating Air India crash. Amid the chaos, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh lies on a bed in the general ward, recovering from injuries after surviving the fiery disaster.

A British citizen, Vishwash had come to India briefly to visit family. He was flying back to London with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh. “Just half a minute after take-off, there was a deafening sound. Then everything went dark — the plane went down,” he shared, speaking through chest pain and visible bruises on his feet and eyes.

The ill-fated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was bound for Gatwick and carried 242 individuals, including crew. It took off at 1:38 pm Thursday, but crashed moments later, erupting into flames.

“I woke up to bodies scattered around. I was terrified. I somehow got up and ran. Debris was everywhere,” Vishwash recalled. He said someone pulled him to safety and rushed him to the hospital in an ambulance. Miraculously, he still had his boarding pass in his pocket.

He and Ajay were seated in different parts of the aircraft. “We had just returned from Diu. He boarded the flight with me, but now I can’t locate him. Please help me find him,” he pleaded.

In another part of the hospital, families of other passengers, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, were frantically searching for answers.
