A video circulating on social media claims that police action against a madrasa in Uttar Pradesh occurred following the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. This misleading post has sparked significant attention, but after a thorough investigation by Vishvas News, it was found that the video is from Bhagwanpur Tehsil in Uttarakhand and predates the passing of the Waqf Bill in Parliament.
The viral post, shared on Facebook by user MD Rehan Ali Aimim on April 7, 2025, claimed that the police action took place in Uttar Pradesh after the Waqf Bill was passed. However, upon closer examination, it was revealed that the video was actually recorded in March 2025 in Uttarakhand, long before the bill’s passage.
Investigation details revealed that the video was initially shared by Facebook user Shahzad Alam on March 23, 2025, and another post from Uttarakhand Time TV described it as an action taken by Bhagwanpur Tehsil authorities. The related news reports confirmed that the video depicted an operation against unregistered madrasas in Uttarakhand, not Uttar Pradesh. The action was part of an ongoing investigation into illegal madrasas in the region, with authorities sealing madrasas that were operating without proper registration.
Further confirmation came from Devendra Sati, editor-in-charge of Dainik Jagran Dehradun, who verified that the video was indeed from Uttarakhand. The Waqf Amendment Bill, which is the subject of ongoing debate, only received President’s assent on April 5, 2025, further disproving any connection to the incident in the video.
This incident highlights how videos can be misrepresented, leading to misinformation about the Waqf Bill’s impact.
