A state minister informed the legislature on Monday that the Mizoram government has dismissed a teacher for allegedly disclosing the social science question paper from the class 10 board exam.

The ministry stated that prior to the March 8 exam, the instructor had given recommendations to particular students.

The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) promptly opened an investigation after receiving complaints regarding the similarities between the questions in the social science paper and those recommended by the instructor from the government-run Mizo High School, according to education minister Dr. Vanlalthlana.

The MBSE questioned several individuals, including the president of the Mizoram Secondary School Teachers’ Association (MISSTA), the principal of Mizo High School, some students, and the suspected teacher.

It was found that the teacher, who was part of a moderation team responsible for filtering question papers, had admitted to his misconduct, the minister said.

He confessed to providing board exam questions as suggestions to some academically weaker students during a special class, and these students had noted down the suggested questions in their notebooks, which served as evidence, Vanlalthlana said.

On further investigation, it was learned that the suggested questions were not widely circulated as the special class was attended by a few students and all class 10 students of Mizo High School did not receive the suggestion, the minister said.

According to Vanlalthlana, the accused was placed under suspension on Sunday due to his misbehavior, and that same day, a police station received a First Information Report (FIR).

The minister stated that in order to deliberate on future steps regarding the matter, the examining committee met on Monday.

Exams for the remaining topics will go according to schedule, he said.

Parents and students were incensed by the occurrence and took to social media to voice their opinions.
