New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a fresh round of talks with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, revisiting discussions from their earlier in-person meeting in Washington DC. The two leaders explored avenues to strengthen India-US collaboration in technology and innovation.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Had a conversation with Elon Musk, following up on the topics we previously touched upon in DC.” He highlighted India’s commitment to deepening partnerships with the US, especially in the domains of futuristic tech.
This exchange comes as interest from Musk’s companies, especially Tesla and Starlink, grows in the Indian market. Tesla is reportedly in discussions with Indian officials about establishing a manufacturing facility in the country.
Simultaneously, Reliance Jio recently announced a collaboration with SpaceX to roll out Starlink satellite internet across India. Bharti Airtel has also signed a similar pact, although both services await clarity on spectrum allocation and regulatory approvals.
Modi and Musk’s earlier meeting in February had centred around electric mobility, renewable energy, and space exploration. During that visit, the Prime Minister gifted books to Musk’s children, including works by Tagore, RK Narayan, and Vishnu Sharma.
The recent conversation is seen as timely, as Starlink’s security clearance is still pending and bilateral trade negotiations between India and the US aim for a first-phase conclusion by September or October.
India’s proactive engagement with global tech leaders reflects its ambition to lead in innovation-driven partnerships.
