Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the United States on February 12-13 at the invitation of President Donald Trump. This will be their first in-person meeting since Trump began his second term. Modi is set to be the fourth world leader to visit the US after Trump’s re-election.

Key Priorities

Discussions will center on expanding strategic ties, focusing on trade, defence, nuclear power, advanced technology, and security in the Indo-Pacific. India aims to resolve trade disputes, including tariff hikes and visa backlogs, and secure US cooperation on initiatives like iCET and IMEEC. A possible trade deal could restore India’s Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) benefits, revoked in 2019. Talks with business leaders, including Elon Musk, are expected.

Major Areas of Collaboration

🔹 Bilateral Relations – The 2005 strategic alliance evolved into a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in 2020. The Quad was strengthened under both Trump and Biden.

🔹 Trade & Investment – Bilateral commerce stood at $190 billion in 2023, with India enjoying a $36 billion surplus.

🔹 Energy & Defence – The US ranks sixth in India’s energy trade. Defence ties remain robust, with India procuring over $20 billion in US arms.

🔹 Science & Technology – Collaboration spans space exploration, AI, and emerging tech, with Indian astronauts training for Axiom-4.

This visit marks a pivotal moment in advancing India-US relations across multiple sectors.
