Uttar Pradesh: Throwing shade at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and simultaneously putting herself in the race for the top post, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said that she is “fit” for the job when it comes to matters of the welfare of the people and the country. This is the first time that the BSP chief has said that she is aiming for the top post, however, leaders such as National Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav have already expressed their support for her.
Right now, the Mahaghatbandan already has several faces aspiring to become the next Prime Minister of the country.
Making her case, Mayawati said that the BSP has changed the face of Uttar Pradesh and that Lucknow has been “beautified to a great extent”. In her statement, the former UP Chief Minister said based on this work, it can be assumed that the “BSP national president is fit” for the welfare of the people and the country when compared to Narendra Modi, who is “unfit”.
She also claimed her legacy was that of a clean, pro-people chief minister who aimed at better law and order in the state. Comparing her stint as chief minister of UP to the Prime Minister’s as former chief minister of Gujarat, she said that though he was chief minister for longer than her, he left a legacy of communal strife which has left a “black mark on the country’s history”.
In response to the Prime Minister calling her “daulat ki beti” and accusing her of accumulating wealth, she said that such statements reflected the “anti-Dalit attitude” of leaders, who didn’t want oppressed castes to progress.
