A troop of monkeys has become the centre of attention at the Taj Mahal after videos showing them swimming, splashing and playing in a water tank within the monument complex went viral on social media.
The clips capture several monkeys gathering around the tank before jumping into the water one after another. While some swim across the tank, others chase each other and playfully splash around, creating an unusual spectacle for visitors.
Tourists stop to watch
The unexpected scene quickly drew the attention of tourists, many of whom paused their visits to watch the monkeys’ antics and record videos on their phones.
The footage has since been widely shared online, with many viewers describing it as a rare and amusing sight inside one of India’s most iconic monuments.
Questions raised over security
As the videos gained popularity, they also triggered discussions about wildlife management and security arrangements within the Taj Mahal premises.
Several social media users questioned how the monkeys were able to access the water tank and whether adequate measures were in place to prevent animals from entering visitor areas.
Officials clarify location
Authorities have clarified that the structure seen in the viral videos is not the Taj Mahal’s central water tank, as some online posts had suggested.
According to officials, the monkeys were swimming in a wazu (ablution) tank located between the main mausoleum and the mosque. The tank is traditionally used by worshippers for ritual washing before prayers.
Senior Security Assistant Qalandar said officials have launched an inquiry to determine when the videos were recorded and to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Viral moment captures attention
While the investigation continues, the videos have become a talking point across social media platforms. For many viewers, the sight of monkeys cooling off in the summer heat has provided a light-hearted moment, while others see it as a reminder of the ongoing challenge of managing wildlife around historic monuments.#TajMahal #Monkeys #ViralVideo #Agra #Wildlife #TouristAttraction #SocialMedia #newskarnataka
