The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has reported storm-related damages crossing ₹8 crore in Kannur district alone, as relentless monsoon rains and heavy winds battered the region for several days.
Within the Kannur Electrical Circle, the destruction has been pegged at ₹4.92 crore. A staggering 616 power poles were torn down and wires snapped across 1,953 sites. One distribution transformer also sustained significant damage, further straining the supply network.
The Sreekandapuram Electrical Circle was similarly hit, with losses estimated at ₹4.04 crore. The area saw the collapse of 95 high-tension (HT) and 677 low-tension (LT) poles. HT cables were severed at 42 locations, while LT lines suffered disruptions in 1,531 spots. Two distribution transformers were damaged here as well.
In response, KSEB has rolled out a phased restoration plan. Priority is being given to repairing faults in the critical 11 kV lines, which are vital for powering the broader grid. Restoration of LT lines will come next, with individual consumer grievances addressed in the final leg.
KSEB has appealed to the public to report any electrical mishaps or risks without delay. Residents can notify their local Section office or contact emergency services at 9496010101. Power failures can also be reported through the toll-free helpline 1912, mobile number 9496001912, or via WhatsApp.
