A monsoon getaway ended in tragedy when three college students from Navi Mumbai drowned in Charlotte Lake, Matheran, on Sunday. The victims, part of a group of ten friends from Koparkhairane, had set out on a day trip to enjoy the rains.
According to reports, one student accidentally slipped into the lake. Two of his friends rushed to save him, but all three were pulled under by the strong current and drowned. The rest of the group immediately raised an alarm.
Locals alerted Matheran Police, who responded promptly and summoned the Sahyadri Emergency Rescue Team. Rescue operations continued late into the night.
Among the deceased was a minor, adding to the heartbreak. Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution near water bodies during the monsoon, especially in hilly terrains like Matheran, where surfaces are slippery and rescue access is limited.
