In a tragic and deeply disturbing case from Vellode in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district, a 28-year-old woman, Amaravathi, and her 1.5-year-old son, Adhiran, were found dead under suspicious circumstances late Thursday night. The police have launched an intensive investigation to determine whether it was a case of suicide or involved foul play.

Amaravathi and her husband, Kavinkumar — an employee at a private firm in Perundurai — had been married for five years. According to police, Kavinkumar returned home around 11:15 p.m. on Thursday to find his wife and child asleep. However, at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, he claimed to have discovered his wife hanging in the kitchen. He rushed her to a private hospital in Erode, but doctors declared her brought dead.

It was only afterward that he remembered the child was still at home. Neighbours who accompanied him found the infant unconscious in the cradle. The baby too was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Both bodies were later moved to the Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai for autopsy. However, Amaravathi’s family refused to collect the bodies, demanding a full investigation into Kavinkumar’s involvement. They relented after police assured appropriate action.

Inspector D. Kannan of the Vellode police station said it is unclear whether the child was killed or died naturally, and the full truth will emerge after postmortem results. Erode SP A. Sujatha confirmed that Kavinkumar is currently being questioned.
