A tragic accident near Rayavaram, close to Markapuram in Andhra Pradesh, claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman who sacrificed herself to save her son after a private bus caught fire following a collision.
Collision triggers deadly blaze
The incident occurred early Thursday morning, shortly after 6 a.m., when the bus collided with a tipper truck. The impact sparked a massive fire that rapidly engulfed the vehicle, leaving passengers scrambling to escape.
Witnesses said the flames spread within seconds, fuelled by materials inside the bus, causing panic among those on board.
Mother’s final act of courage
The victim, Uppu Ramadevi, was travelling with her son Manohar. As the fire intensified and the bus filled with smoke, she realised her son was in immediate danger.
In a desperate attempt to save him, she pushed him out through a window. Her son survived the incident, but Ramadevi was unable to escape as the flames spread quickly.
She was trapped inside and succumbed to the fire before rescue teams could reach her.
Community mourns loss
Ramadevi, a resident of Mandadivaripalli village in Kanigiri mandal, is being remembered for her bravery and selflessness. Her act has left the community in grief, with many calling it a powerful example of a mother’s unconditional love.
Investigation underway
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision and the circumstances that led to the rapid spread of fire. Officials are also examining safety measures and emergency preparedness in passenger buses.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and emergency response systems on highways.
