In a heartfelt initiative aimed at uplifting the differently-abled, Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Tuesday distributed assistive devices in Madikeri under the Socially Oriented Civil Scheme. The event, held at Red Cross Bhavan, was supported by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
A total of 344 assistive devices worth ₹20 lakh were handed over to 201 beneficiaries across the district. Addressing the gathering, MP Wadiyar emphasized that everyone, in some way, depends on others in life — and differently-abled individuals deserve increased access to resources and opportunities.
He stressed the significant role differently-abled citizens play in shaping the nation and called for building an inclusive and responsible society where every individual contributes. “To create a strong and ideal India, the participation of all is vital,” he said, aligning his remarks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision.
Former Speaker K.G. Bopaiah highlighted that several Central government schemes are aimed at helping differently-abled citizens lead self-sufficient and dignified lives. He reiterated the national goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, urging equitable distribution of benefits.
Deputy Director Tipanna Sirasagi encouraged individuals with disabilities to utilise government schemes for self-employment. Red Cross president Ravindra Rai requested MP Wadiyar’s support for building infrastructure to expand their services.
Due to monsoon rains, District Officer Vimal noted, device distribution is ongoing across taluks.
