New Delhi: An alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress is possible in the next Lok Sabha polls, but there are conditions to be fulfilled.

Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav has said that the Samajwadi Party will tie up with the Congress only if his father, former chief minister of UP Mulayam Singh Yadav is declared as the Prime Ministerial candidate and Congress scion Rahul Gandhi is announced as the deputy.

Akhilesh kept forth this difficult condition during the Hindustan Times leadership summit, that too when Rahul Gandhi was present in the audience.

“Rahul Gandhi is an old friend….. If they say Netaji (Mulayam Singh) will be the prime minister and Rahul Gandhi the deputy prime minister, I will say yes to an alliance right now,” said Akhilesh, which evidently left Rahul Gandhi in shock.

Rahul Gandhi, later refused to comment on the same.

Akhilesh had also clarified that his party will not be joining hands with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) or the BJP and specifically said that Mayawati wants stone elephants around and that is not his formula at all.

However, the CM said that if an alliance realises his father’s dream of becoming the Prime Minister of the country then he is open to such ties.
