Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were disrupted on Saturday due to a third-party data network failure that affected airline check-in systems. Airport authorities confirmed that the issue caused delays and prompted the activation of contingency measures.
In a statement on X, CSMIA said, “We are currently facing a network failure across the airport. Contingencies have been activated, and our core team is working to resolve the issue. We are operating in manual mode to minimise disruptions. We appreciate your patience.”
Air India also informed passengers about the outage, warning that it could lead to delays. While the airline confirmed that the affected systems have been restored, it noted that residual delays may persist as operations stabilise.
Officials urged travellers to check their flight schedules before heading to the airport. Passengers have also been advised to arrive well in advance to allow extra time for check-in and security procedures.
The outage briefly disrupted the smooth flow of departures and arrivals, with manual processing replacing automated systems to keep flights moving. Airport staff said the situation was under control but cautioned that recovery to normal schedules would take some time.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of airport operations to digital infrastructure failures and the importance of swift contingency planning. Both CSMIA and airline teams continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure passenger convenience.
