Mumbai: It’s yet another season of rains and the same story in Mumbai. Heavy rainfall in the Maharashtra capital has led to water logging in several parts of the city.

The rainfall has led to water logging in several parts of the city, with areas like Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Hindmata, Jogeshwari and Andheri being the worst affected.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is monitoring the situation at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) control room. Earlier, the civic body ordered the shutdown of all schools in Mumbai for the day, and asked Mumbaikars to venture out of their homes only if necessary.

Addressing mediapersons, the Chief Minister said that the focus was on draining the water from the roads, adding that the authorities were concerned about the high tide expected later on Friday.

Several areas in south Mumbai are unlikely to have power supply, with BEST shutting down four sub stations in Colaba due to the rain.
It has been raining incessantly in the maximum city for over 24 hours. The situation is likely to get worse with even more rainfall predicted for Friday.

The civic body of the city has pressed about 120 pumps into service to clear the excess water from the roads.

Meanwhile, the commuters are facing a lot of problems with the rains hitting Mumbai local railway service. While there is no train service between Mumbai CST and Kurla, services have also been affected on both Central as well as Western Railway lines. The services on the Harbour line has been completely stopped.

A high tide of up to 4.6 metres is also expected after 2 pm.

Worst affected areas:

South Mumbai: Nana Chowk, Madanpura, Sewri Sessions Court (Central), Dadar Flower Market, Century Bazaar Worli, Senapati Bapat Marg at Mahim.

Central Mumbai: Chemburs Postal Colony, Chemburs Acharya College, Suman Nagar Junction, Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli.

Western suburbs: Mahim, Bandra Hill Road, Old Khar Locations, Santacruz’s Milan Subway, Railway Station, S V Road, Vakola Junction in East, Kalina Chowki, Air India Colony, Andheri Railway Station, Andheri Kurla Road, Mumbai International Airport, Sahar Road, Malad Subway, Chincholi Bunder Road, Borivali Daulat Nagar, Dahisar Subway area.

Meanwhile, politics has already begun over the situation in the Maharashtra capital, with the Congress blaming the BMC for the “mess”. Talking about the situation, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said that the BMC has repeatedly failed in tackling the problem that Mumbai faces every year.

However, Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant refuted the claims saying the BMC has been working hard to help Mumbai residents, adding that “such issues should not be politicised”.
