Heavy downpours drenched Mumbai for the third day in a row, causing widespread flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and sparking a citywide response.

The municipal authorities issued a red alert across several key areas—including Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Mulund, Powai, and Santa Cruz—as meteorologists forecast more intense showers.

In response to rising water levels and safety concerns, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a full holiday for all schools and colleges.

A sudden surge in rain—over 100 mm in some parts within just nine hours—intensified travel disruptions. Vikhroli in the eastern suburbs, in particular, recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall.

Public infrastructure faltered under the relentless deluge. Streets in Bandra, Andheri, and other areas were submerged, compelling water to seep into train tracks and prompting significant delays in rail services.

Commuters endured gridlocked roads as vehicles slogged through flooded streets, while public buses continued to operate where possible, offering some semblance of reprieve amid the chaos.

Authorities urged residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel as the situation remains precarious across the metropolitan area.
