In a major infrastructure update, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed that the long-delayed Mumbai-Goa highway will be fully completed and operational by June 2025, providing a significant boost to travel and connectivity in the Konkan region.
Speaking at an event hosted by Amar Hind Mandal in Dadar, Gadkari stated that despite numerous challenges, the project is back on track.“The highway’s completion will ease traffic congestion and drive regional development,” he said.
Once opened, the expressway is expected to drastically reduce travel time, improving access to coastal Maharashtra. The long-pending project has faced multiple delays over the years due to land acquisition hurdles and environmental clearances.
In a second major announcement, Gadkari revealed that physical toll booths across India will soon be phased out.
A new toll collection policy, expected within 15 days, will introduce satellite-based tolling and automatic deductions via number plate recognition and bank-linked accounts.
“We’re moving towards a system where toll will be deducted directly—no queues, no stops,” Gadkari said, emphasizing the ease and efficiency this would bring to Indian roadways.
He further added that with ongoing developments like the Delhi-Jaipur and Mumbai-Goa highways, India’s road infrastructure will be “better than the United States within two years.”
These initiatives are set to transform the travel experience for millions, with smoother commutes, fewer delays, and high-speed road access becoming the new norm.
