A social media post by a Mumbai-based lawyer has sparked an online storm after she revealed her personal cook, lovingly referred to as “Maharaj,” takes home a whopping ₹2 lakh per month.
The lawyer, Ayushi Doshi, shared the details in a post on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that the cook caters to 12 households, charging ₹18,000 per client. He reportedly spends no more than 30 minutes at each location. According to her, he faces no issues with late payments, and is welcomed with complimentary tea and meals at every home.
“My Maharaj •Charges ₹18k per house •Max 30 mins each •10–12 houses daily •Free chai & food •Gets paid on time or leaves without a goodbye,” she wrote. She humorously added, “Meanwhile, I’m out here sending ‘gentle reminder’ emails on a low salary.”
The post quickly gained traction, drawing a flood of responses. Many users praised the cook’s entrepreneurial mindset and time management skills, while others debated the wider implications around domestic worker wages and income fairness.
One user joked, “₹18k for 30 minutes? Is he using AI?” Another quipped, “This isn’t a cook, it’s a robot. ₹26 LPA is wild.”
Some, however, felt the amount was exaggerated. “Part-time cooks in Gurgaon charge ₹4–6k,” a user commented.
The next day, Doshi updated, saying, “If anyone knows a cook who charges ₹6k–12k, please DM me. Maybe I’m overpaying — but honestly, he deserves it.”
