A journey to Bhusawal ended in tragedy after a Mumbai man died at Nagpur railway station while allegedly trying to catch up with a friend he had lost sight of in the crowd.
Aslam Shaikh, a resident of Wadala and a BJP activist, was travelling with his friend on a train bound for Bhusawal in Jalgaon. The two reportedly became separated during the rush at Nagpur station.
He got off when he lost his friend
According to the Nagpur Government Railway Police (GRP), Shaikh got off the train after losing contact with his friend. Police said he then allegedly tried to leap from the moving train towards the platform.
He lost his balance during the attempt and fell on the tracks. The fall proved fatal.
CCTV helped explain what happened
Shaikh’s death initially left his family with questions, with relatives reportedly suspecting that there could have been more to the incident.
Police later showed them CCTV footage from the railway station. The footage reportedly captured the incident and helped clarify how Shaikh fell from the train.
Based on the CCTV footage and the information gathered so far, the GRP has treated the incident as a tragic accident.
His journey home took a heartbreaking turn
Shaikh’s body is being brought back to Mumbai, where his last rites will be performed.
The tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the risks involved in attempting to board, leave or move alongside a moving train, especially at busy railway stations.
What began as an attempt to find a friend during a crowded journey ended with Shaikh losing his life, leaving his family to bring him home instead.
