Mumbai’s metro network hit a new benchmark on June 18, 2025, as a record-breaking 2,94,681 commuters travelled via Metro Lines 2A and 7, the highest single-day ridership ever recorded by the system. This marks a major milestone in the city’s public transport journey.
According to officials from the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), the surge reflects rising commuter trust, efficient daily operations, and the successful rollout of tech-enabled ticketing. Impressively, over 65% of tickets were booked using the WhatsApp-based digital ticketing platform, showcasing the public’s embrace of modern solutions.
A senior MMMOCL official remarked, “This milestone is the result of the unwavering confidence of Mumbaikars and the hard work of our teams. We deeply appreciate the commuters who make this possible.”
This figure surpasses the previous daily high of 2.92 lakh logged on October 8, 2024, coinciding with the launch of the new Aarey Colony–BKC metro link. Another notable peak was seen on June 6, 2024, when 2.60 lakh commuters used the network in a day.
Metro Lines 2A and 7 are now indispensable to Mumbai’s transit grid.
