The Mumbai Police are investigating a threat message received on Saturday via WhatsApp, which allegedly mentioned a plot to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The message, sent to the traffic police helpline, claimed that two ISI agents were involved in a bomb blast plot aimed at the Prime Minister. This development follows a similar threat received less than two weeks ago, which mentioned an assassination attempt on Modi.
The number from which the message was sent was traced to Ajmer, Rajasthan. Investigators suspect the sender may be mentally disturbed or under the influence of alcohol. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the individual responsible.
This threat follows another incident from last week when a Mumbai-based caller made a similar threat against Modi. The 34-year-old woman who made the call was detained, with police stating that her actions were driven by frustration with the administration system. In her call, she referenced a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister and claimed a weapon had been prepared for the attack.
In addition, the police have dealt with multiple hoax threats in recent weeks, including threats against Bollywood actor Salman Khan. On Friday, the police received a message threatening to kill Khan unless he apologized to the Bishnoi community or paid ₹5 crore.
Earlier in the week, a man was detained after threatening Khan’s bodyguard on the set of his film, claiming to be connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, officials have suggested that the dispute between the bodyguard and the accused may have been personal.
