Mumbai Woman Inserts Knife to Avoid Family’s Reaction to Rape: Cops
Mumbai: A disturbing case has emerged in Mumbai, where a 20-year-old woman allegedly inserted a knife and stones into her body after being raped by an auto-rickshaw driver. The woman, found on Tuesday at a railway station wrapped in plastic with the objects inserted into her vagina, initially misled the police by claiming to be an orphan. However, after further investigation, the police discovered that she lived with her family in Nalasopara, a township in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
According to the police, the woman and the accused driver had gone to Arnala Beach for the night, but after being unable to secure a hotel room, they spent the night on the beach. It was there that the police believe the woman was raped. Fearing the reaction from her parents, who had previously subjected her to physical abuse, the woman allegedly inserted the knife and stones into her body to avoid facing scolding or punishment.
When she started feeling pain and bleeding, she reached out to the police, who filed a rape case against the driver. The police also revealed that the woman had previously made two rape complaints in 2023. Officers suspect that the woman may have underlying mental health issues.
The incident highlights the harrowing emotional and psychological distress faced by survivors of violence, especially when compounded by fears of family judgment.
