Sabarimala: In the ongoing Sabarimala issue, several women activists attempted to enter the temple, one among them was Rehana Fathima, who made it till 500 meters close to the temple on October 19.

For her attempt, she has reportedly been expelled from the Muslim community by the Kerala Muslim Jama’ath Council… but not for the reasons you might think.

A press release issued by the council’s president stated the Ernakulam Central Muslim Jama’ath were directed to expel not just Rehana, but her family as well, from the membership of the Mahallu. “Her act hurt lacs of Hindu devotees and it is against the rituals of Hindu community,” the statement added.

In the statement, the council also condemned the activist’s part in the “kiss of love” campaign and for her role in a nude film. Stating that she had no right to use a Muslim name, the statement called for the government to register a case against her for creating communal hatred under IPC section 153A.

Apart from Rehana, the statement also called for action against IGS Sreejith for providing security to ‘anti-social elements’ who were trying to enter the temple.

Rehana, in the meanwhile, is reportedly planning to seek legal action against the Sabarimala temple’s head priest for joining other protestors in preventing her from entering the temple.

According to her, the priest called for the route she took to be cleansed as she is a Muslim. She also said that there were attempts to incite communal riots by insulting religious feelings.

After Rehana and journalist, Kavitha Jakkal returned from the Sabarimala temple unsuccessful, the former’s home in Kochi was vandalised by an unidentified mob.
