Questions raised on safety aboard trains

The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of women travelling alone, particularly on long-distance trains. Many are now questioning the adequacy of current surveillance and security measures onboard Indian Railways.

Although there are supposed to be RPF personnel on patrol during long journeys, the effectiveness of such patrols has often come into question. Passengers have demanded the installation of more CCTV cameras and the presence of female security staff on trains.

Community response and social media

Public reaction to the incident has been strong, with netizens commending the quick response by passengers. However, there is also criticism of recurring incidents of harassment aboard trains and calls for stricter preventive steps.

Tripura’s civil society groups have urged railway officials and the state administration to take stronger action and ensure more proactive policing during journeys.
