Nagpur: In Nagpur, Maharashtra, two schoolgirls confronted and attacked an auto-rickshaw driver after he threatened them with violence similar to that experienced by a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. The incident took place following a heated argument between the girls and the driver, who had asked them to quiet down.
The driver allegedly threatened the girls, saying, “I will do the same to you as what happened to the girl in Kolkata,” referring to the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9. This case has ignited nationwide protests by the medical community and heightened concerns about women’s safety.
Reacting to the threat, the girls demanded the driver stop the vehicle. Once he complied, they forcibly pulled him out and began to physically assault him. Bystanders, upon hearing about the threat, joined in, leading to the driver being beaten by the crowd. A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows one of the girls slapping the driver while being comforted by a woman in the crowd.

The tragic incident in Kolkata, where a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered while on duty, has brought the issue of women’s safety into sharp focus. The Calcutta High Court, dissatisfied with the Kolkata Police’s handling of the case, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over. The primary suspect, Sanjay Roy, and others connected to the case are undergoing polygraph tests as part of the ongoing investigation.
