New Delhi: Party leader and Former Union Minister Dr. Subramanian Swamy has been allotted a house by the BJP-led government for “security reasons”, sources said. He is the complainant in the National Herald case in which Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul are expected to appear in court on today, Saturday December 19.

The allotment decision came yesterday during the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation or CCA, chaired by Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.

It has been reported that the decision was made by the CCA because Dr Swamy is a Z-category protectee provided with Central Reserve Police Force cover and there is no place for deployment of armed guards at his present house. His security is said to be reviewed from time to time by the Security Categorisation Committee under the ministry.

The assessment report on his security said, “There is need for proper government accommodation for effective deployment of security for Dr.Swamy. Accordingly, a government accommodation for him for five years has been recommended.” The house comes at five times the normal licence fee paid for such accommodation, sources added.

The CCA also allowed former Punjab Director General of Police KPS Gill and former Congress leader MS Bitta to retain their present government accommodation till May 2018. The committee has also allowed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat to retain government accommodation in New Delhi for one more year, on medical grounds, because the state government guest house is being renovated.
