A growing wave of protests led by Indian People in Solidarity with Palestine (IPSP) has put Tata Group’s fashion retail brand Zudio in the spotlight. In the past two days alone, demonstrators gathered outside Zudio outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Patna, Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh, Rohtak, Vijayawada, and Kozhikode, condemning Tata’s alleged ties with Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

In Kozhikode, around 50 people, including members of IPSP and the Student Islamic Organisation, joined the protest, chanting pro-Palestinian slogans and calling for a nationwide boycott of Tata-owned brands. Demonstrators carried placards reading “Boycott Tata, the Baby Killers” and staged symbolic flash mobs portraying the suffering in Palestine.

The activists accuse the Tata Group of being complicit in Israel’s military actions through its alleged collaboration with Israel’s aerospace industry and providing armoured Land Rover vehicles used for patrolling in occupied Palestinian territories.

Zudio, launched in 2016 by Trent Ltd., a Tata subsidiary, has become a nationwide fashion retail phenomenon with 750 stores offering budget-friendly clothing. However, the current boycott campaign has triggered polarized public responses. While some support the cause, critics have slammed the protests as performative, with social media users questioning why similar outrage wasn’t directed at Turkey, which recently voiced support for Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

As the IPSP promises to intensify its campaign, the controversy puts both corporate ethics and protest politics under sharp national scrutiny.
