Two young doctors from the Indian Naval Hospital Kalyani in Visakhapatnam met a tragic end on Saturday after being run over by a truck on a city flyover. The accident occurred under Harbour Police Station limits, near the Essar Company area.

The victims were identified as Soumya Satish Asati (25) from Maharashtra and Lieutenant Megha Rawat (26) from Delhi. Both were travelling from Sheela Nagar to Convent Junction on a motorcycle.

According to police, Soumya, who was riding the bike, attempted to overtake a lorry and a car at high speed but lost control during the manoeuvre. The two were thrown off the bike and fell onto the road, where they were fatally crushed by a truck coming from behind.

Preliminary findings indicate that the crash occurred due to rash driving and failure to follow traffic rules. Authorities stated that the primary fault lay with the rider, based on eyewitness accounts and the accident’s sequence.

The police have registered a case and the bodies were transported for autopsy. Both victims were said to be promising professionals serving in military medical services.

This incident has shocked the Naval community in Vizag, with tributes pouring in for the deceased. It also serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible riding.
