The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) is set to submit its final report on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) by the end of December. However, it will exclude geo-technical tests, which the state government has been reluctant to conduct. These tests are critical to assess the structural integrity of the barrage, which faced issues after grouting works were done post the Medigadda barrage collapse. The NDSA has also warned against storing water in the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, citing similar risks to those at Medigadda. The Telangana government, concerned about the long-term safety of the project, tasked the NDSA with assessing its stability and recommending necessary safety measures. This report will play a crucial role in guiding the state’s next steps regarding the future of the KLIS project.
