Kottayam: As time moves forward, more details get unravelled in the Kevin murder case. This time, the case took another turn when Neenu’s father claimed that she was mentally sick. Her father moved the court to shift her to a shelter home.
Neenu’s father Chacko and his son Shanu Chacko – the prime accused – have both been under judicial custody since they surrendered themselves in connection with the case.
With the help of a lawyer, Chacko moved his petition with the Judicial First Class Magistrate Ettumanur in Kottayam. The petition says, “My daughter Neenu has mental health issues, she was being treated by Dr Vrinda of Ananthapuri Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She is now living in a stranger’s house and not receiving her treatment. Since I have been under judicial custody, I am not able to provide her proper treatment or protection. Therefore the court may take action to shift my daughter to a shelter home.”
Neenu, Kevin’s wife, has been staying with her in-laws, Rajan alias Joseph and Omana Mary, ever since his death. Their home is the one referred to as a “stranger’s home” in Chacko’s petition.
Neenu’s marriage to Kevin was registered two days before his abduction. Neenu, a graduate student of Geology and Water Management at the BK College, continued to stay in her hostel in Kottayam after their marriage was registered, as she was firm in her decision to go with Kevin, despite a missing complaint being filed by her parents at the Gandhi Nagar police station.
Her parents were against the relationship as Kevin was from a poor Dalit Christian family from Nattesseri, while Neenu’s father is a Latin Catholic and her mother is a Muslim.
Kevin was found dead in a canal on May 28 after he and his relative, Aneesh were kidnapped from their grandmother’s home in Kottayam, the previous day.
