Kota: An eighteen-year-old medical aspirant allegedly jumped from the ninth floor of a building, a day after the NEET-UG results were announced, police reported on Thursday.

Bagisha Tiwari, who resided on the fifth floor of the multi-storey building with her mother and brother, is believed to have taken her own life on Wednesday, according to police.

Despite being rushed to a private hospital, she succumbed to her injuries an hour later, authorities stated.

Tiwari, originally from Reva district in Madhya Pradesh, had been preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) at a coaching institute in Kota.

Her brother, currently in the 12th grade, is also preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), said Circle Inspector Harinarayan Sharma of Jawahar Nagar Police Station.

The National Testing Agency released the NEET-UG results on Tuesday.

This incident marks the tenth suspected student suicide in Kota, a major coaching hub, since January this year. Last year saw 26 such cases, the highest in recent years.

Inspector Sharma mentioned that Tiwari jumped from the ninth-floor balcony. A woman attempted to intervene but was unable to prevent the act.

Family members and others immediately took Tiwari to a nearby private hospital, where she passed away during treatment an hour later, Sharma reported.

The body is currently in the mortuary of Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital, awaiting post-mortem after the arrival of her father, who has been notified of the incident.

Initial investigations revealed that she had appeared for the NEET-UG exam, but the exact reason for her extreme step is still under investigation, added CI Sharma.
