On Wednesday, after attempts to drill through the debris with another machine failed, it was flown in from Delhi.

The device will assist in boring a hole so that a pipe can be put through and the workers can escape by crawling.

Since Sunday, they have been confined inside as a section of the tunnel collapsed due to a landslide.

Authorities told the BBC that while they were anticipating “a positive development” by Thursday evening, they did not want to guesstimate how long the task of clearing the debris might take.

Nonetheless, rescue efforts may continue for an additional two to three days, federal minister VK Singh informed reporters on Thursday.

In the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, the accident happened on Sunday at 5:00 local time (23:30 GMT). A section of the Silkyara tunnel collapsed while the workers were inside, about 200 meters from the opening. The debris mounds stopped the workers’ oxygen supply.

Authorities stated that the workers, who are stranded about 200 meters down the tunnel, are safe. Through pipes, rescuers have been giving the men food, water, and oxygen. They have also been able to communicate with them via walkie-talkies. Nevertheless, according to some reports, a few of them have been dealing with nausea, anxiety, and headaches.

The workers are not hurt, according to the authorities, who have refuted this.
