In a heartbreaking incident, a newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned in a blue basket with a handwritten apology note near an orphanage at Takka Colony in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, on Saturday morning. The discovery was made by local morning walkers and sanitation workers, who immediately alerted the police.

The infant was found wrapped warmly, and early medical assessments suggest she is stable. A note written in English—believed to be from the mother—explained that the parents were financially incapable of raising the child. The note ended with a heartfelt “sorry,” expressing helplessness.

According to officials, the Panvel Town police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abandonment of a child. Senior Inspector Nitin Thakare confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the baby’s biological parents, with CCTV footage being reviewed and local hospitals being contacted.

Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur visited the hospital to check on the baby’s condition. She is expected to be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further care and protection.

This incident has stirred emotional reactions across the city, highlighting both the desperation faced by some families and the urgent need for strengthened child welfare and support systems.
