In a heartbreaking incident, a 21-year-old woman, married just five days ago, was found dead by suicide at her rented residence in Keernatham, Coimbatore on Monday evening.
The deceased, S Deepika, hailed from Dindigul district. She had recently tied the knot with S Saravanan (29), also from Dindigul, who works as a manager at a private bank in the city. On the day of the incident, a distant relative of Deepika had visited their home. Later in the evening, Saravanan left to drop the relative at Kovilpalayam bus stand.
When he returned, he discovered Deepika had taken her own life. Shocked, he raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush in and notify the Kovilpalayam police. The authorities recovered the body and sent it for postmortem to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital at Varadharajapuram.
The body was handed over to Deepika’s parents on Tuesday following the autopsy. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic death.
The sudden loss has left both families and the local community in grief, raising concerns about the mental well-being of young couples and the support systems available to them.
