COIMBATORE: A dramatic midnight chase by Krishnagiri police led to the arrest of Edward Ebam Idupor (43), a Nigerian national wanted in a ₹1.15 crore online money-doubling scam in Bengaluru.
The arrest took place around 1:30 am on Friday when Inspector Manimaran and his patrol team noticed a suspiciously parked car near the Krishnagiri toll gate on Hosur-Krishnagiri Road. As the team approached, the suspect tried to flee in his vehicle but was quickly intercepted after a short chase.
Edward, who claimed to run an agency in Bengaluru and said he was en route to Kerala to meet his wife and daughter, was found carrying incriminating materials. A search of his car revealed five mobile phones, a laptop, seven bank passbooks, nine ATM cards, four passports, ₹3.93 lakh in cash, and foreign currency in euros.
Upon further investigation, police confirmed that Edward was wanted in connection with a major online scam in Bengaluru. Krishnagiri police promptly informed Bengaluru police, who then arrived and took custody of the accused.
