In a devastating accident in Shahpur, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, nine children lost their lives and several others sustained injuries when a wall collapsed during a religious event on Sunday. The wall, part of a temple, gave way, causing the tragic deaths of the children, who were aged between 10 and 15 years. The incident occurred amidst a crowded religious programme, leading to a chaotic scene as emergency services rushed to the site to provide assistance.
Sagar Divisional Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat confirmed the fatalities and injuries, noting the severe impact of the wall collapse on the local community. Emergency responders worked quickly to assist the injured and manage the aftermath of the incident.
The tragedy in Sagar follows a similar incident on Saturday in Rewa district, where four children died after a wall collapsed on them while they were returning from school. The wall, part of an abandoned building near a private school, fell on the children from Sunrise Public School. Additionally, a woman and another child were injured in the accident. The collapse occurred near Garh police station limits, and authorities have been investigating the cause of the wall’s failure.
Both incidents highlight a critical issue regarding the safety and maintenance of buildings, especially in areas where children are present. The authorities are calling for immediate action to inspect and secure potentially dangerous structures to prevent further tragedies.
In both cases, emergency services were mobilized promptly to manage the crisis and provide aid to those affected. The community has come together to support the victims’ families and address the immediate needs arising from these tragic events.
