New Delhi: With only a week left before the hanging of the convicts in the Nirbhaya case, reports have surfaced that the four have refused to transfer their assets to their kin and prepare a will. Reportedly, the jail authorities have said that the convicts are hopeful that the date of their hanging will be deferred once again.
Reportedly, the convicts have come up with another delay tactic by moved the Delhi High Court against the Tihar jail. The rapists’ lawyer has said that the staff at the jail are yet to give his clients the documents to file curative and mercy petitions.
According to the first death warrant, the four were supposed to have been hanged on January 22, however, one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh used his remaining legal option to defer the hanging. Now, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur still have the option to seek the mercy plea from President Ram Nath Kovind before the second date of hanging, February 1.
A report by TOI states that after a notice to prepare a will and mention the date of their last meeting with their family was issued to the convicts, Vinay Sharma began acting aggressively and Mukesh Singh was anxious that he had exhausted all his legal options. The other two, sources told TOI, were normal.
The report adds that the hail staff and security guards have been directed to monitor the convicts’ activities closely, especially when they are in the bathrooms or at night time.
