New Delhi: Chief General of the Indian Army, Bipin Rawat has said that gay sex will not be allowed in the Army.
Addressing his annual press conference on Thursday, January 10, Rawat said that the Indian army has its own laws on homosexuality, which will be followed. However, it may be recalled that the Supreme Court decriminalized homosexuality, on September 6, 2018.
“We are not above the country’s law but when you join the Indian Army, some of the rights and privileges you enjoy are not what we have. Some things are different for us,” he said.
The Apex court had also struck down the anti-adultery law, saying it was unconstitutional and dented the individuality of women and treated them as “chattel of husbands”.
When asked to comment about it, the Army Chief said that the Army is very conservative.
“We can’t allow it to perpetrate into the Army,” he added.
