Noida: Workers in industrial areas of Gautam Buddh Nagar have raised key demands including wage hikes, weekly offs and better working conditions during late-night discussions with a government-appointed panel following a massive protest.
The Uttar Pradesh government constituted a high-level committee on the Instruction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to address the unrest and examine workers’ grievances.
Late-night talks with government panel
The committee held detailed discussions with labour representatives and other stakeholders in Greater Noida, where workers from multiple industrial units presented their concerns.
The panel includes senior officials such as the industrial development commissioner, additional chief secretary (MSME), principal secretary (labour and employment), and the labour commissioner, along with representatives from labour unions and industry bodies.
Officials described the meeting as part of a broader consultation process aimed at resolving the situation through dialogue.
Wage hike tops demands
One of the primary demands raised by workers is a revision in wages. Many employees currently earn between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 per month and are seeking an increase to ₹18,000–₹20,000, citing rising living costs and wage disparities with neighbouring states such as Haryana.
Workers said the demand is not just about higher pay but about fair compensation in line with inflation and industry standards.
Weekly offs and overtime issues
Apart from wages, employees have demanded a guaranteed weekly day off and strict enforcement of double payment for overtime work.
Several workers also highlighted concerns about long working hours and lack of adequate rest, stating that improved working conditions are essential for both productivity and well-being.
Concerns over job security and dignity
Workers further raised issues related to job security, implementation of labour laws and the need for a more respectful work environment.
Many participants in the discussions stressed that the protest reflects broader concerns about dignity at the workplace, not just financial issues.
Administration assures action
District Magistrate Medha Roopam said the committee is committed to addressing the concerns of all stakeholders while maintaining industrial harmony.
Officials indicated that multiple rounds of discussions will be held before final recommendations are submitted to the state government. Key decisions, particularly on wage revisions, are expected to be taken at the government level.
Appeal for calm
Meanwhile, the administration has urged workers to maintain peace and return to work, advising them to rely on official communication and avoid rumours.
Authorities emphasised that efforts are being made to ensure a balanced resolution that protects workers’ interests without disrupting industrial activity.
