Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday abolished the practice of according Guard of Honor and House Guard to Chief Minister, ministers and other government officials.

“Henceforth, Guard of Honour will be accorded to the chief guest only on the occasions of Republic Day, Independence Day and Utkal Diwas,” said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

However, the tradition of according Guard of Honour will remain for the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Governor, Lokayukta, Chief Justices of both the Supreme Court and high court and other judges of the two courts, the statement added.

The Odisha government also directed that freedom fighters should be addressed as ‘Manyabar’ (Hon’ble) in meetings.

“Hon’ble’ should be used for the personalities holding high constitutional posts and freedom fighters,” the statement said.
