KANNUR: A sorrowful incident unfolded at Meenkunnu beach, where two young men went missing while swimming. The body of one, P K Ganesan Nambiar (28) from Pattanoor Kodolipram, was discovered along the Neerkadava shore in Azhikode.
His companion, V Prineesh (27) of Vellora House in Varam Valiannoor, remains untraced despite extensive search efforts. The duo had ventured into the sea near the Kallakadappuram stretch around 4 p.m. the previous evening, shortly after taking photos near the rocks.
A couple present at the beach witnessed the two being dragged away by the strong current and immediately alerted local residents. However, by the time help arrived, the youths had been swept too far to be rescued.
Divers from the Azheekal Coastal Police unit conducted an intensive underwater search, but only one body could be located. The identities of the men were confirmed through Aadhaar cards found in clothes they had left on the rocks.
The two had accessed the beach area by descending from the cliffs above Meenkunnu. Residents warn that the Kallakadappuram section is known for its perilous waters and strong undercurrents, making it one of the most dangerous spots along the Kannur coast.
