Ongoing efforts against fraudulent job scams abroad
In a recent statement to the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar revealed that the government is actively addressing fraudulent job scams targeting Indians seeking employment abroad. He informed the House that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has requested the blocking of certain websites offering fake overseas job opportunities and recommended the prosecution of individuals involved in these scams.
Jaishankar shared that the government has successfully brought back 1,167 Indians from Cambodia and 497 from Myanmar, who had been lured to these countries under the false promise of jobs. He explained that these individuals were made to work illegally by those running the scams.
Addressing the issue further, Jaishankar mentioned ongoing challenges in regions like West Asia, the Gulf, and the Middle East, where Indian workers face issues such as underpayment, non-payment of wages, and mistreatment.
The External Affairs Minister emphasized that the government is taking a firm stand to protect Indian nationals from such exploitation and is working to curb the activities of those behind these fraudulent operations.
