A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 38-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife, a home guard attached to Mahadevapura police station, to death in front of their two children after suffering heavy losses through online betting.

The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar, was arrested on Monday on charges of murder and causing hurt by dangerous weapons. Police said the incident took place on Sunday evening at the victim’s parental home, where she had been staying along with her children following ongoing marital disputes.

Attack took place before children

According to police, Pradeep visited the residence claiming he wanted to reconcile with his wife, Manjula. Family members said he sought forgiveness and attempted to convince her to return home.

However, moments later, he allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly attacked her. Police said Manjula sustained multiple stab injuries to her abdomen, chest, shoulder, hands and head.

Her daughter reportedly suffered minor injuries while trying to stop the assault. Manjula was rushed to a government hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Videos revealed his state of mind

Investigators said Pradeep had recorded selfie videos hours before the incident. In the videos, he allegedly spoke about losing nearly Rs 8 lakh through online betting and claimed the addiction had destroyed his family.

He reportedly stated that he could not imagine life without his wife and suggested that both of them would soon die.

After the attack, Pradeep allegedly fled the scene and later contacted police, claiming he had killed his wife and attempted to harm himself.

Family disputes and legal action

Police said Manjula had previously filed complaints against her husband, and the couple had undergone counselling on multiple occasions.

Family members alleged that Pradeep frequently harassed her and questioned the paternity of their children. Unable to bear the continued harassment, Manjula had recently initiated divorce proceedings and reportedly filed a petition through a lawyer a day before the incident.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
